- SMART GLASS
Smart Glass is a laminated glass product consisting of a Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal (PDLC) film, which is sandwiched between two layers of glass and two layers of conductive interlayers. The PDLC film is what allows you to change the visual appearance of the glass from opaque to transparent on command (or dim anywhere in between). When the electricity is applied to the film through wiring, liquid crystals align and the window instantly becomes transparent. When the power is turned off, liquid crystals return to their normal scattered positions, therefore, rendering the glass opaque.
Smart Glass also offers thermal, solar and sound insulation benefits, helping to keep rooms cool, comfortable and quiet. It reduces the need for fiddly and awkward use of blinds or curtains. It can be used in partition screens, windows, roof-lights and doors, security and teller screens, and even serve as an excellent HD projection screen.
Smart glass products can be used in both residential and commercial buildings. When installed in the envelope of buildings, smart glass creates a climate adaptive building shells, the ability to save costs for heating, air-conditioning and lighting, and avoid the cost of installing and maintaining motorized light screens or blinds or curtains.
Smart Glass obtains 99% UVA and UVB protection as well as estimated 40% heat rejection.
As more architects and interior designers explore the possibilities of smart glass into their work and projects, it is expected that the market will continue to grow and expand into new and innovative uses of privacy glass.
